Today was supposed to have been a lazy sort of day. Thirteen had already taken the time off of work, and she and Sunshine had had plans on strolling around the neighborhood while the young doctor showed her friends the sites.

That changed, however, when her cell phone rang.

"Help us thirty-one, you're our only hope."

"House, I'm on vacation."

"You're still home, and you haven't gone anywhere, that's not vacation."

"I have company."

"The more the merrier! We'll be happy to meet your newest sexual conquest."

"She's not-"

"Ah-ah! Don't go denying it, she's the reason you've been in such wonderful moods lately."

"Fine, whatever."

"See you when you get here, Bubbles!"

Groaning, Thirteen hangs up the phone, turning to her erstwhile companion.

"Well, change of plans. How do you feel about seeing where I work?"

Sunshine had been enjoying the walk in the spring sunlight, so warm after such a dark and bitter winter. The stronger sunlight, with the light talk and banter with Thirteen, was helping her clear her mind and put her thoughts back in order, like cleaning up one's house after throwing a raging party the night before.

When Thirteen's phone rings, she looks over, watching Thirteen's reactions. "I'm up for it," Rae says, easily. It's a lazy day indeed; it's not like she had other plans. She doesn't like that Thirteen has to go to work while on vacation, but she doesn't mind tagging along.

Thirteen smiles softly, adjusting their course back towards her apartment so she can gather her things for work.

"Thanks. Hopefully, this doesn't take too long."

[sunbaked_baker]

"Hey, but this way I get to meet the boss I hear so much about," Sunshine grins, wryly. "So maybe the vacation isn't entirely creep-free. I can forgive you this once."

[numbered_doctor]

She chuckles.

"Just, don't take anything he says overly seriously, and things should be just fine"

[sunbaked_baker]

"Meh," Sunshine smirks. "If he says something I don't like, I can threaten to withdraw all baked goods he might have gotten attached to."

"Which are his favorites, do you know?" An effective threat is a precise threat.

[numbered_doctor]

The mulls the question over for a moment as they stroll.

"I'm pretty sure it's the Bitter Chocolate Death."

"All right then. Now I know where to hit him to make it hurt," Sunshine smirks as they return to Thirteen's home.

The way to anyone's heart (excepting vampires) is through their stomach, Sunshine has found. She knows it well.

Thirteen laughs as they enter the building.

"I can't wait to see the look on his face when you threaten to take it all away."

[sunbaked_baker]

"Well, make sure to stand where you can see it, should I have to threaten him," Sunshine grins.

[numbered_doctor]

She beams.

"Will do."

They enter the apartment and Thirteen makes a quick trip for her bag and car keys.

"I'll warn you now, unless I claim you as my girlfriend, they'll be all over you."

Sunshine chuckles. "I am pretty good at staving people off, if I have to."

Despite his good-old-boy exterior, Mel has a temper on him, so Sunshine's gotten somewhat skilled at deflecting unwanted attention. Nowhere near as good as Charlie at full blandish, but pretty good, all told.

It helps when they're loyal subjects of the Cinnamon Roll Queen and don't want their desserts taken away.

"Well, don't say I didn't warn you," she quips, making one last check for anything she might have forgotten before heading back for the door.

"And the threat of no baked goods might be enough to keep them at bay."

"I'll give it my utmost, captain," she grins, saluting as they head out to Thirteen's car.

The young doctor just rolls her eyes, unlocking her car doors as they arrive.

"I'm sure you will."

[sunbaked_baker]

"Of course."

Sunshine spends the ride looking at the different places, asking questions about Thirteen's world.

She does her best to keep the comments about how strange it is to herself.

Thirteen, in turn, does her best to answer the curious questions as she navigates her way along the familiar path to work, her fingers drumming idily on the steering wheel as music comes quietly from the car radio.

When they arrive, Sunshine gets out of the car, looking up at the hospital.

"I hope you won't take it personally that I've never liked hospitals."

Too much blood.

"Luckily, I've never had to go to one."

She grins, fighting a little against going back to her usual, aloof self on the hospital grounds.

"It's alright, not a lot of prople do."

[sunbaked_baker]

Sunshine bumps into Thirteen as they head towards the hospital, grinning. "The people there are sometimes all right, though."

When they're Thirteen.

[numbered_doctor]

"Good to know you think so," she quips, bumping back a laugh.

Before they head off for the diagnostics depatment, Thirteen guides Sunshine towards the reception desk for a visitor's pass. Less hassle that way.

Sunshine will wear it with pride!

Or something. She'll wear it at least, clipped to her yellow tanktop where it'll show.

Disregarding the shocked looks from her other co-workers, Thirteen continues to grin at her friend.

"It suits you," she teases slightly, offering an arm to her. "Now, shall we?"

"I might start paying attention to fashion, if all it takes is a visitor's pass," Sunshine grins, taking Thirteen's arm.

[numbered_doctor]

She scoffs lightly.

"You kidding? Visitors passes are the very high end of hospital fashon, right along with the backless gowns."

[sunbaked_baker]

Sunshine breaks into giggles as they head down the hall and through the doors to the diagnostic department.

"But those oh-so-fashionable items should never be worn together. Too much of a good thing, I'd think."
