Not Exactly A Good Day

It's been a while since she's been in the Bar. Between very long hours at work, and House running the team ragged, she hasn't even had time to think about Milliways, let alone come here.

Today is different, though. Milliways has usually refrained from pulling the young doctor in, since she had found a stable door, but now, she's stumbling in, almost unseeingly, and it takes her a moment to realize where she is.

Remy's certainly seen better days, hair a mess, red-rimmed eyes, and, oh yes, did we mention the blood? Though that's not exactly on her mind at the moment, as she's just noticed her lack of door and has turned to pound on the bare expanse of wall, leaving bloody prints as she hurls insults and generally screams at it.

Remy smiles brightly at her friend, nudging her gently with her shoulder.

"I promise I'll try to hold onto my curiosity for as long as I can. You have more fun that way."

"A great deal more fun." Rachel assured. "And it keeps some of the shadows in a person's heart from growing too strong." Curiosity, like love, tended to burn too brightly to foster darkness. And unlike love it rarely tended to fester and turn.

With a not!sibling like Rachel, it's probably going to be very hard to lose sight of her curiosity.

"That's definitely a good thing to know. I'm not exactly eager to see what it's like to be in that state of mind."

For a moment there was shadow behind the emerald in Rachel's eyes. just the briefest flash as the telepath thought on what she had changed in Remy. Not something she should have done perhaps, Remy had had no true choice...but she was happier. Much happier. Therein lie evil though? Assuming she knew best? She would have to be more vigilant. "It isn't a kind one. Generally self destructive and dark. It can swallow people if they let it."

Remy's jaw tightens for just a moment, and Remy leans against her friend with a sigh.

"Right. I had forgotten."

They had both seen her mother go through that darkness, and her father afterwards.

"So we stay curious and use it as a shield against darker things." She reached out to poke Remy's nose. "And I use it as a distraction sometimes too. I guess it's a multi-purpose tool."

Remy grins a little.

"An awesome, multi-purpose tool," she quips, poking back. "And distractions are always good."

"Really! Some of those butterflies left ghost images in the air! And some had wings like lace!" Totally awesome distraction!

"You should come get me if you find it again, that'd be pretty awesome to see."

Seriously? Alien butterflies sound awesome.

"Don't forget to look for it yourself too. It may be something you can only find once." She shrugged easily. "Places are odd like that."

"Don't worry," she says, the young doctor turning to grin up at her. "I plan on looking for myself."

"Good, it might show up then." She grinned and stood to start walking along the rafters. "or something else. Take a stick in case you need to poke things."

Remy's perfectly content to watch her friend, resting her back against one of the vertical beams and pulling up her legs to stretch along the one she's sitting on.

"Good advice, I'll keep it in mind."

She walked on the rafters like she would a broad road. No hesitation, no thought that she might slip...and with her feet not always touching down before the next step. "Sticks are an important part of adventuring gear."

[numbered_doctor]

"Yes," she agrees, still watching her move. Hey, if she fell, she could always fly, right? "That and flashlights. Never know when you'll run into a dark place."

"Huh, never thought of that." Rachel had to admit with a chuckle. "And probably rope and water...especially if you end up in the desert!"

[numbered_doctor]

"May as well bring a whole adventuring pack," she says. "It'd be easier that way."

"Nah, that can get stuck. The rope you wrap around your waist as a belt, holding the loop of your water bottle. The stick you keep in hand and you're good."

[numbered_doctor]

"Fair enough," she says with a nod. "Wouldn't want to get stuck in god knows where, and can't get out."

Beat.

"Though I'd need food."

Rachel flashed a grin over her shoulder, briefly visible in the deepening shadows in the rafters. "Ask the wait rats. Some of them are very adventurous and one might be willing to come with you with some provisions in return for a fun time and a share in treasures you find."

[numbered_doctor]

She chuckles.

"You think one would actually go for it? You're the one with the good rep with the Bar."

"Most of the rats actually had to get used to me. It took Ari's favorite to talk them all around. Those that come near me are the adventurous ones." Rachel chuckled. She'd had one that actually chased her through one of her explorations to deliver the broth Bar had insisted on!

"But talk to them, spread the word, sooner or later those interested will come forth."

Remy stretches out her muscles, relaxing a little further against the worn, rafters. Hey, bouncing from all-consuming grief and excited joy is hard work.

"I'll definitely have to remember that. They'll come in handy."

"And if you do get stuck they can go fetch help." She pointed out rather logically. "They can generally avoid most things in existence when they want to."

She chuckles.

"They're smart buggers, aren't they?"
