Not Exactly A Good Day

It's been a while since she's been in the Bar. Between very long hours at work, and House running the team ragged, she hasn't even had time to think about Milliways, let alone come here.

Today is different, though. Milliways has usually refrained from pulling the young doctor in, since she had found a stable door, but now, she's stumbling in, almost unseeingly, and it takes her a moment to realize where she is.

Remy's certainly seen better days, hair a mess, red-rimmed eyes, and, oh yes, did we mention the blood? Though that's not exactly on her mind at the moment, as she's just noticed her lack of door and has turned to pound on the bare expanse of wall, leaving bloody prints as she hurls insults and generally screams at it.

"Yes, it does," she agreed whole-heartedly. "But from someone who has lived a very long time...people have the right to die. If they can talked out of it all well and good, but if they still choose otherwise it's their life."

"Very true. If they want to go, they'll go, no matter what."

They arrive at the Bar, and Remy gently lays a hand on the worn, wooden surface.

"I've had a terrible day. Any chance you'll let me have a drink?"

"If it's a bad idea I'll scrub her system and break it down okay?" Rachel wheedled, hitching up to sit on the bar cross-legged. "And she'll eat."

[numbered_doctor]

She nods earnestly.

"That too. I'll eat, too."

Remy nearly whoops in joy when a bottle of beer appears on the bar top, along with a hot plate of food.

"Thank you sweetie." She patted the bar top, allowing a flicker of flame to leave her fingertips. Rachel and the Bar had an...odd...relationship but it worked for them! Good thing she could talk to the Bar herself because she tended to freak Mike out.

"Savor your victory Remy."

She adds her own thanks to the Bar, patting it's surface affectionately and murmuring quietly before taking a sip from her drink.

"Will do."

"Good girl." She idly played with motes of light while Remy ate, not wanting to distract the girl from that task.

[numbered_doctor]

Grinning faintly, she lifts her bottle in a toasting motion, taking one more sip from it before starting on her meal.

"The fallout at work is going to be a pain in the ass."

"Oh?" She wasn't sure how normal workplaces treated such things so she couldn't help but ask.

[numbered_doctor]

A nod.

"Cuddy's going to offer us time off to cope, but none of us will take it. Except maybe Foreman, he'll probably hole himself up in his apartment until he can regain his...emotionless-ness.

Taub'll continue like nothing happened, probably bottle things up 'till he bursts.

And House...House'll probably obsess over this. He'll want to know why he did this. Probably chew us out for not noticing. I wouldn't put it past him to break into K- into Kutner's apartment to look for clues."

"Take the time off, avoid the obsession and blame for a little while." Rachel suggested. "It sounds a lot like you don't work with a single person who has any kind of healthy coping mechanism."

[numbered_doctor]

She scoffs.

"Tell me about it. He's not good with change. When his previous fellows left, rather than choosing new ones normally, he hired everyone who applied, and set to weeding them out."

[futures_of_ash]

"Ah, House." She replied after a moment of tasting the leaking thoughts. "I had meant all of them, but he does seem the worst. Take the time Remy."

[numbered_doctor]

"I suppose I should," she says, absently running a finger along the condensation of the bottle. "It'll give me time to get my head on straight."

"Yes, should." Rachel eyed the woman and sighed. "You have no business treating people when you yourself are heartsick. It distracts you and puts them at risk. Promise me you will take the time."

[numbered_doctor]

She blinks, just a little stunned.

"Wait. Heartsick?"

"Severe emotional pain that causes confusion, distraction, and etc etc." She reached forward to tap Remy's chest sharply. "You loved him, as you would someone who could have been a close friend. That kind of wound is why people take time. The scrambled thoughts and confusion are all just symptoms."

She lets out a long breath, and more liquid disappears from her bottle as she digests this information. She's tempted to splutter and deny things, but what's the point?

"Then yes, I promise, I'll take off the time."

"Bar, witness." Rachel tapped the wood, and then a napkin appeared with the word 'witnessed' on it. "Good. Read some comics, play some games, DO NOT DO WORK no matter who calls you and asks you to. Get in touch with the things Kutler loved, and that you love."

Remy can't help but smile some at the blatant emotional blackmail, shaking her head wryly.

"I could use the break, anyway. House has been working our asses off, lately."

Well, blatant usually meant that a person would stick to their promises!

"Yes, you need a break." Rachel grinned. "And now you'll have an excuse beyond yourself to get one."

[numbered_doctor]

She gives a crooked grin, starting on her food now.

"Come take a break with me?"

"And leave the Bar to it's own devices?" Rachel chuckled and ruffled Remy's hair. "No dear, I'm far more comforting in small doses and strange places."

[numbered_doctor]

She swats at the hand in an attempt to ward off the ruffling.

"Fine, fine. Leave me to my own devices."

"How much trouble could you get up to in a world like yours?" Rachel teased. "Let's be honest, avoid serial killers, jail, and anything that explodes and you'll be fine."
